Pastor’s Pen…
I wanted to take a moment and let you know what we’re doing at our lunch prayer services for the next few weeks. Our time together is not only a time where we place emphasis on prayer concerns, it is also a time of study. We will be in the book of James for about six weeks and I would like to invite any of you who are available to join us.
The book of James is a fascinating book and teaches us many valuable lessons. This letter reminds us that genuine faith fosters certain responses. James challenges us to put our faith in action. This book has been called the most practical document in the New Testament. One minister wrote: “The letter of James has less about Jesus’ life than any other New Testament letter. Yet, no other epistle reflects more of Jesus or contains as many echoes of His words.”
James’ purpose was to give his readers directives for Christian living. His desire was to challenge believers to a broader and deeper faith. I hope that you will join us as we dig a little deeper in this small but informative epistle.
Our next and final movie night for the summer is scheduled for August 19. Sorry about the cancellation of the last one, it was just extremely too hot outside. Our movie on
the 19th is a new release and is about a boy by the name of Marvin Mobley who dreams of becoming a great baseball player but no matter how much he practices or how hard he tries, he doesn’t improve. His dream finally comes true when he finds a mysterious pair of glasses that turns him into the greatest baseball player his town has ever seen. After his glasses disappear, Marvin doesn’t believe he can play but with the support of his team he learns that winning doesn’t mean anything if you can’t be proud of how you play the game.
Because Slow Moe is a baseball themed movie, we are also planning a picnic at Our Place. It’s a great time for hot dogs and apple pie. That’s right, in addition to the popcorn we will have a churchwide hot dog and apple pie supper beginning at 7 pm. Bring a friend, your lawn chair, your appetite, and plan to spend a wonderful summer evening with your church family. Don’t let this date slip past you. Mark your calendar now. We will all be looking for you! It all begins at 7 pm.
By the way, we will also be looking for you in worship this Sunday. I hope that all of our members realize how much they mean to our church. Each of you are so special to us. God has gifted all of you for ministry. As your pastor I want to encourage you to come to PBBC and explore how God might choose to use your special gift in His work.
Blessings and Peace,
Jim

BAPTIST WOMEN AND SHAWL MINISTRY MISSION TRIP
Eleven ladies joined John Harold Stone at the GOLDEN LIVING CENTER in Martinsville on Tuesday, August 2. The group started with a resounding HAPPY BIRTHDAY for John Harold, who then directed the singing of hymns and conducted Bible study and prayer. The residents were wrapped in a shawl with greetings of love from the women…a total of 22 shawls were handed out and well received. Afterward, the group enjoyed lunch and fellowship together at the Third Bay Restaurant. Jackie Coleman drove the church van for this occasion.
Eight shawls were received from the ladies of the Shawl Ministry. Two birthday gifts will be delivered to Harmony Hall later in the month.
The ingathering for Alma Hunts Missions is Sunday, September 11 with a goal of $1500.
